Once your attic is properly air sealed, your BPI-certified contractor can add insulation to the attic. They will use cellulose, which is made up of recycled newspaper. They’ll also apply a layer of air sealing over the cellulose to create a barrier between your living spaces and attic.
Another option is spray foam insulation, which has a high R-Value and acts as both an insulator and air barrier. It is best suited for attics with odd shapes and can be installed in areas where other types of insulation can’t. However, it’s a more expensive insulation option and must be installed by trained professionals due to chemical handling.
